"Easy wins", a good sense of proportion for the important things.

At the SPS IPC Drives 2011 there was a guessing game at the booth of the AS-Interface organization. It was searched for the length of an displayed AS-Interface cable. This action was addressed to the future users of the installation and automation system AS-Interface. An AS-Interface starter kit was waiting for the person who valued the length of the cable most accurate.

Mr. Raphael Klein from the GfE (GfE Gesellschaft für Elektrometallurgie mbH) at Nuremberg has participated. With estimated 73,82m he was next to the actual length of the 74m AS-Interface cable.

Therewith Mr. Klein won the AS-Interface Starter Kit "Student one". As it turns out during the transfer, this was his first encounter with the system. First views of the AS-Interface technology during the handover showed clear savings for the company's typical installations. Especially for the wiring of switch cabinets a lot of time was always needed, which can be reduced with AS-Interface significantly.

The GfE based in Nuremberg is one of the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of high performance metals and materials. With experience and material-scientific know-how the company is creating customized solutions for various industries. GfE currently has a portfolio of over 250 highly intelligent materials for applications such as metal in the areas of engine manufacturing, solar thermal and photovoltaic.

Process automation more potential for growth

In the last three years the part of AS-Interface solutions for the process technology increased stronger than average. The benefit of the system convinced in combination with application optimized products more and more users.

The many visitors of the booth on the branch trade show "BRAU" last autumn, showed here as well the need for branch special customized solutions and products. Actually the working group process technology took the job to enhance and optimize the solutions for the process technology. Especially in the process automation, some solutions have requirements that could be met with AS-Interface very easy. In the sample of a fermenting cellar this has been already described, see: Vorteile in der Prozesstechnik am Beispiel Gärkeller.PDF

Since years the AS-International Association is active engaged in the promotion of the trainees, which has started with a "Know-How-challenge" that attempts to encourage technical trainees and academics.

For this year's SPS the AS-Interface organization therefore decided for a competition to introduce the technical academics with AS-Interface.

This competition was only for pupils and students, which finds a large resonance at the AS-Interface booth.

The mission of the competition was to estimate how many meters of the AS-interface cable are inside of a container.

Release and winner of the competition:

Exact 74m of AS-Interface cable were in the container.

With an estimate of 73,82m, Mr. Raphael Klein from Nuremberg was next to and is therewith the winner of the competition.

The AS-International Association congratulates Mr. Klein at its prize, an

AS-Interface Starter Kit
